Background:

Barking Sporthouse and Gym is a multi-activity facility known for its Trampoline Park, sports hall, soft play area, climbing walls, and extensive gym and fitness classes. Commonly recognized as a community sports center, the building also has a rich history, having served as a training ground for athletes during the London 2012 Olympics. With its commitment to community wellness and environmental consciousness, GLL, the facility’s owner, prioritizes sustainability as part of their core values, including “Respecting the Planet.”

Challenges:

Before the project, Barking Sporthouse and Gym faced high energy expenses, with annual bills reaching approximately £150,000. As part of GLL’s ongoing efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and operating costs, the decision was made to invest in renewable energy solutions, with Helix 50 appointed to manage the installation of solar panels.

Solution:

Helix 50 undertook the comprehensive management of the solar panel installation. This included the planning, logistics, and execution phases, ensuring minimal disruption to the facility's daily operations. The installed solar panels are projected to generate an annual energy savings of 75,000 kWh, translating into a reduction of 15 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
